Actually we have already received some snow in places in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Some areas have received as much as an inch of snow. Needless to say, it didn't
last long. Both daytime and over night temperatures have been unseasonably
mild this Autumn thus far. Snow or no snow, one thing is for certain...
that's all going to change.
As soon as daytime and over night temps average below freezing, it's that
time to start looking towards the sky for snow clouds. Days gone by,
(in the 90's) we use to always have at least a foot of snow on the ground by the
firearm deer season opener which begins on November 15th. That hasn't
happened for a long time however.
Now a days, you can expect a good hearty Upper Peninsula snowfall or two by
the first or second week in December. But even with a foot of snow or
two... it doesn't take long for it to disappear if we encounter unseasonably
mild temps above freezing. In fact, it has been known in most recent
years, to rain in December.
If you play your cards right and know what snowfall signs to look for, You can get in on some great, early season
snowmobile fun and excitement. First, get yourself a reliable, on-line
weather resource. After ten years reporting on Michigan's Snowmobile
weather and trail conditions, we've come to rely on Weather Underground as the
Internet's most trusted and most reliable weather forecasts.
In fact, do yourself a big favor this snowmobile season and invest a mere
five smacks to join Weather Underground for an entire year, and
ultimately customize your weather page to include the locations that you are
most interested in . A click of the button on your new control panel will
give you accurate weather for cities throughout the entire Upper Peninsula- all
delivered without the flashing page full of ads that appear without a
membership. The best snowmobiling, on line investment you can make.
Keep a close watch on your weather forecasts. Look for consecutive days
(including over night low temps) for approaching cold weather systems in advance
and make your plans accordingly. If the forecast predicts a 30% or 50%
chance of snow showers, chances are good it'll probably not snow. If you
see a 70% chance or higher, it's a very good sign that it's gonna snow.
