Harley Davidson Parts in a Box

Mystery Wood Box with OEM Harley Davidson Logo

This is a real interesting request.  Ray, a visitor to our Harley Parts website found himself a very old and very interesting find.  He found an old Harley Davidson part or parts mystery box, or crate if you will.

Ray is wondering what it could have been used for and believes it is Genuine Original Harley Davidson OEM equipment parts packaging of some kind.  What is most interesting about this Harley Davidson parts box is the connectors attached to it.

Take a look for yourself.  What the heck is this?  If you think you know what this Mystery Harley Davidson Parts Box or Crate was use for, please help to satisfy our extreme curiosity.  Who knows... there may be a little sumpin-sumpin in it for you.

The box even have some connectors on, do you know what the connectors were used for ? The box has original paint and logo on one of the side.

Attached some e images of the box....maybe you know the history to it ??

Thanks :)

Hi, I work in Advertising, but I am a antique Harley Fan. This box is most likely a Dealer made display. The Hangers world hold it up vertical in a shop window, most likely to the right- having the logo displaying left. The buttons on the bottom, were for lights. Back then it would have been a shadow box design- So the lid would have been carved out to display a image or message. That is a really a cool find.

I’m thinking that the two connectors on the box are old pushbutton type switches.  The springs coming out the front of the one and the two wire connections on the back support that theory.  What they were used for is anyone’s guess.  Good luck trying to unravel the mystery!!

the decal is the same as used on the 1908 to 1932 bikes and were available to buy and put on anything. my guess is somebody made it using a Harley tank decal.  all the packaging I have seen (even from the early years) has Milwaukee u s a on them I have never seen any early packaging using a tank decal. that tank decal was recycled and made a appearance on a bike again in the early 80's so without tracing the owners of this box back it will probably remain a mystery

It appears to be a WWII, contract parts crate for overseas shipping. Those hooks look familiar.

I think the electrical connector was added by someone later for powering a electric lamp inside for keeping baby chickens warm.

Here's what looks like an official Harley Davidson OEM logo on the side of the box

Here's an inside look into the Harley Parts Box.  Notice the interesting connector located at the top left, inside of the box.  Close up snaps of the connector are located below.

Here's a photo shot of the connector of some sort inside the Harley Parts Box.  Now, what in the heck was this connector hooked up to, and for what purpose??

Shot of a corner post of the Harley Davidson Parts Box.  Also shown is some kind of hanger.  Is this a connector also???
