The Spring fishing season on Lake Superior is quickly closing in and ice fishing
is gearing down.
Currently there's more than a foot of ice on shoreline Bays and exposed, open
water on river tributaries leading out to the lake.
Ice fishing is still in, though not for too much longer. Late season ice
fishermen are panning out well fishing for whitefish, splake and lake trout
through the ice in 30 to 60 foot depths.
Best spots are numerous on Munising Bay. AuTrain Bay, Shelter Bay and if you're
the brave at heart...the Whitefish river mouth will offer up some real
surprises, where coho salmon are beginning to show up slow but sure; and the
whitefish are always biting.
You don't have to go out far. Ice fishermen are fairing out well in 30 to
60 feet of water. But it won't last too long.
Very soon, air temps will begin to rise, ice conditions will deteriorate and
warming runoff from river tributary outlets will flow with an abundant food
supply, which in turn will attract everything from yellow perch to big brown
trout, to river mouth outlets to feed aggressively.
Fish Lake Superior from Shore

the unique ability to reach and fish for lake trout, splake, coho salmon and
occasionally northern pike from its "T" type fishing pier. You could also wade

food sources.

spinners, spoons and plugs. Fishing the Anna River outlet can offer up some
exciting surprises and loads of clear water fishing enjoyment.
Best fishing times are early morning and late afternoon into evening and always
